The Escuela Runawasi is located in the Juan XXIII neighborhood, 10-15 minutes by bus from the center of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Villa Juan XXIII was founded by a minerīs cooperative in the mining center Catavi about 30 years ago.
Here live former mine workers, retired workmen and low income families. Necessity obliged and obliges the residents to help themselves. Their own initiative and hard work have brought them electricity and water 24 hours a day. They also built a primary school. And recently they built a multi-purpose community house "Casa Comunal". It has a large hall for concerts, parties, wakes and other functions, a library, workshops, and a health center. Cochabamba is a city of approximately 750' 000 people. Its location in the heart of Bolivia allows an easy access to all regions of Bolivia, from the tropical lowlands to the arid highplanes, and La Paz, the world's highest capital.
